Botox Q & A
What is Botox?
Botox is the first FDA-approved treatment for the temporary reduction in your moderate to severe facial lines. SWFL Dermatology Plastic Surgery & Laser Center also offers other injectable neurotoxin treatments such as Dysport® and Xeomin®, which temporarily paralyze the tiny facial muscles, allowing your skin to relax, thus, your wrinkles and fine lines disappear.
Areas which may benefit from Botox injections include the:
- Forehead
- Between your brows
- At the corner of your eyes
- Outer lips
Botox is a neurotoxin that works by temporarily reducing your treated area’s muscle activity, which relaxes the muscles so lines and creases can’t form. Your results can be very dramatic, yet you’ll have a completely natural appearance.
What happens during a Botox treatment?
Your provider begins by first examining your face and making notes as to where Botox injections are to be placed. Your face is then cleansed.
Using a fine needle, your provider gently injects Botox through your skin into the muscle. Within a few days, you’ll notice your muscles relaxing at the injection site. In about a week, you’ll notice your fine lines and wrinkles have become less discernible.
Botox injections will typically take about 5-15 minutes to complete, but the number of injections required depends upon your aesthetic goals and the number of areas you choose to treat.
How long is the recovery time for Botox?
Botox injections require minimal downtime. It’s not uncommon to immediately return to your normal daily routine after receiving your treatment.
You should refrain from strenuous activity for 24 hours after your injections. You may see tiny red spots at the injection sites, experience a slight sensitivity to touch, or have possible headaches. However, these side effects are temporary.
How long do Botox results last?
You’ll begin to notice results within a couple of days. Your final results will be visible after seven to ten days. With your final results, you’ll look like yourself, only with less noticeable fine lines and wrinkles.
Results from Botox typically last for three months or longer, depending on the strength of your facial muscles and your current lifestyle habits.
